Scott Anderson, a Hy-Vee truck driver and volunteer firefighter, found himself thrust into a harrowing scene one late fall day in 2021. Racing to the site of a tragic car crash near Newton, Anderson's instincts kicked in as he witnessed the aftermath of a devastating collision.

Among the wreckage lay 25-year-old Noah Kimmel, trapped and gravely injured. Without hesitation, Anderson sprang into action, his firefighter training guiding his every move. Amidst the chaos, Anderson's steady hand and unwavering resolve became a beacon of hope in a moment of despair.

"I've seen people die from less," Anderson recounted, reflecting on the gravity of the situation. With calm determination, he reached into the mangled car, placing a reassuring hand on Kimmel's chest, and miraculously, the young man drew a deep breath, signaling a glimmer of hope amidst the wreckage.

Kimmel's road to recovery was arduous, marked by surgeries and rehabilitation. Yet, thanks to Anderson's courageous intervention, Kimmel defied the odds, undergoing treatment for severe injuries, including bleeding on his brain and multiple fractures.
